A Page and a poet
I was recently introduced to the poetry of Kim Addonizio. It gave me some inspiration to write more of my own - not quite ready to share that- but I will share my journal page where I will safely have her name and a little motivation.
And here is one of her poems I adore.
Dance
By Kim Addonizio
When you are finally, magically, able to clone
yourself into several identical women,
so that each one can move toward a man
who’s been waiting for his turn
to come around for the first time, or maybe again,
won’t you be happy then,
all of you together in a lustrous ballroom,
each woman wearing her distinguishing number,
the judges scoring everyone the same, music spilling
from the bandstand, the men thrilled
to be near you, each one whispering
a different pet name, each one polishing
with his black shoes a perfect circle of floor
while he raises you up, holding your
hips in his hands, gazing at you with his brown
or mottled green eyes, looking down
with his startling blue ones, taking you into a corner
then spinning you out toward the center
where the light from the mirrorball
splinters over your skin, sidereal
as your sequined dress, and you feel
as complete as you’ll ever feel,
moving through all your true and beautiful lives
while the real one pales.

Sketchbook Play
To get some creative juices flowing again I realized I don't have to embark on huge projects, just start on little things, like doodling with watercolor crayons in my sketchbook....

stitch...relax
We are off on a camping trip this weekend in Olympic National Park, just up Highway 101. I am soooo looking forward to sitting around playing with my embroidery. May finish this tree pattern, and do some freehand stuff. I've got a giant bag of threads and am ready to relax...and eat S'mores!

Using up scraps
This was an idea from Glenda Bailey in the latest Sew Somerset. Check out her lovely blog!
I loved her fabric cards and thought I would give them a try.
This one is various scraps, some felted wool, lace, stamps dipped in encaustic wax, papers and stamp (hey Donna, do you recognize that one from my box of goodies!), transferred photo of a door from a trip to Quebec, and old clothes. I left the heart open like a pocket so I could write a note on fabric, roll it up, and place it in the heart.

Farewell Chevy Truck, you'll be missed
Sort of as a joke, I started writing a farewell letter to my old Chevy truck that will soon be leaving me. My brother comes next week to take her down to California. It got me thinking of all the places and experiences with that old (okay, it's only a '94) truck. I thought I would share it here on my blog since I am into mail and letters too. And I would love to hear about your old cars and if it was difficult to give them up. I think most of us have fond memories of certain cars in our lives.
Oh, precious Chevy truck, you’ve been good to me. It will be sad to see you go. You’ll go on to your new California home and soak in the sun instead of collecting mold and mildew here in the Northwest. You’ll have new adventures without me. You’ll have a view of the ocean every day. I hope you will sometimes think of me and the miles and places, the breakdowns, oil changes, blizzards, chipped windshields, car washes, near misses, and tunes that have blared out of your AM/FM stock radio.
Safe journey ’94 Chevy.
With love,
Katie

Gifts from Donna
Last week I was extremely lucky to win Donna's giveaway over at Donna Did It! The box of goodies made it from Mexico today and I quickly tore into it---- Donna has outdone herself with treasures! Thank you, thank you! Here's a look at some of the loot.
This ribbon may be my favorite. And would you look at all these interesting shrines and frames!
A pouch full of charms and beads...
Fibers!! My dear fiber!
There was a whole assortment of postage stamps, postcards, and paper goodies...
Thanks again Donna! I will put it all to good use and maybe you'll see some of it used in mail art for you too!
