Liberate Your Art!

What a great year at Liberate Your Art!
The postcards kept my mailbox happy week after week!
Here are the wonders I received....

The first card is from Andrea. What a lovely scene!

I love this one with the chairs! I am not sure of the name of the artist---I hope to find out through the blog hop! It's amazing!

This sweet honey bear is from another artist I hope to find! Isn't he great!

Hey--- I know the amazing talent who did this---my friend, JoAnna from Fiddlesnips! She is lovely, Jo!

This one is of the benches at the pentagon Memorial by Karen Walker. Such interesting lines--Amazing!!

Last, but not least, our fearless leader's card! Kat, this is great! I love it!

Thank you, Everyone for all the amazing art! I also had a great time checking out cards people received on the facebook event, and look forward to blog hopping this weekend to see more!

ps. If you received one of mine, I'd love to hear from you. :0)

In the Works

Yesterday, I met up with the art journaling group in Indy. Here are the pages I worked on.
I used Distress Ink Stains for the background and covered it with a layer of gesso.

This background is acrylics and I just started doodling and writing.

I got my postcards in the mail to Kat for Liberate Your Art!

Today's project: Keep working on another art quilt.

I ordered a lot of cards from MOO this time. I often put them in packages as a Thank You, and send them to friends. I took a few and put a set of my mixed media collage images in my shop. I am trying to get the inventory built up in there and want to do more with it.

What else can I stamp?

Hello!!

I'm a busy gal today cutting up paper, stamping, and making. Besides just loving to make cards, I am adding some postcards to my shop, building up the mail art stash, and getting ready to send in my cards for Liberate Your Art! Are any of you participating this year? I did it last year, and loved seeing what rolled into my mailbox! If you haven't heard of it, click the link on my sidebar...lots of great artists in it!

I used to work for Stampin' Up almost 12 or so years ago---thank god I didn't give away all my stuff. These ink pads work as good as they did when i first bought them! Amazing!

Stamping the gals on moleskines too.

the postcards...

Where do I get my inspiration?

Today---from my new obnoxious & glorious orange and black Adidas! I'm a sucker for loud 3 stripes!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Cuba: Darcy's Postcard Challenge

This week at Darcy's the country is Cuba! I hope to go there one day in my travels. When I think of Cuba, I think of the wonderful music, and vintage automobiles cruising the streets.
This week I did a gel medium photo transfer ( both images pulled from google) on a canvas panel and painted on layers, doodled, added some crackle, and played around until I liked it.

I decided I really want to send this one to a friend--- Is that bad I don't have more of my ladies' travels on the back? Hope you all don't mind. :0)

Wales: Darcy's Postcard Challenge

This week over on Darcy's postcard challenge the country is Wales.

I had more time this week and decided to research a bit about it, and the people. Somehow, in the click clicking through the internet, I stumbled upon a section of Wales labeled "Snooker".
It reminded me of a time in my 20s where some friends and I went out to shoot pool ( and drink a few!) and all the tables were full. The bartender told us all he had left were snooker balls, and we naively thought we could hit those around like the billiards we knew.
Wrong.
Very wrong. Not the same.
We laughed at ourselves and took the snooker balls back to the bartender. And I have never seen snooker at a bar since in the States.

When I read about this gentlemen, Ray Reardon, I immediately loved him! How could you not?
Here's a bit of how Wikipedia summorizes him:
Born Oct. 8, 1932, retired Welsh snooker player who dominated the sport in the 1970s. His dark widow's peak and grin gave him the nickname Dracula.
At 14, he became a coal miner, but after a bit of scare, he got out of that line of work, and later became a police officer.
He really sounds like the coolest guy....if I can't sit and have a beer with him, the least I can do is make a postcard with his image.
It was transfered onto muslin and sewn into this 4x6 card.

Margaret continues her journey around the globe in search of new and exciting adventures. She's decided to mingle in the pubs of Wales and learn snooker.

Canvas board postcards

I have been playing with paint and ephemera and making 5x7 collages. I like doing these on the small canvas boards and just writing the address on the back and mailing them like postcards. The folks at my post office seem to like them too.

France: Darcy's Postcard Challenge

I am just starting up Darcy's Postcard Challenge. As a lover of mail art and postcards, how could I not participate? So, here I am. It's week 5 on the challenge, but my week 1. I'm jumping in with the great theme of France.
I made this mixed media card with all kinds of scraps of paper and fabric lying around my craft table. And, I happened to have some dried lavender to tuck in the felt heart pocket. My two characters are Antoinette and Margaret, who may be loosely based on my maternal grandma and paternal great grandmother, but I'm still working this out.

I punched a hole and added an eyelet so I can keep them all on ring.
I look forward to visiting all the blogs participating and having a new creative challenge.

Warm Again!

Hurray! Rejoice! The power came back on last night. And the internet, phone, and tv followed soon after.

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments. I really appreciated it.

Now, I can get back to my routine. I'll be around to visit all your blogs too. I am still having trouble leaving comments on some. I'll try to figure that out this week.

Here's my latest Valentine postcard I finally got to put in my shop.

And, here was my neighborhood on Wednesday morning after we got about a new foot of snow...
My driveway at around 7am.

This neighbor didn't get out until the other day!

This saw a plow Saturday but pretty much looked like this from Wednesday on. This was also taken before the trees starting falling onto this road. And the main road up there is still closed. They are trying to remove huge evergreens laying across it every ten feet or so. Eek.

I did get to know some of my neighbors better this week, and met some new ones. I had some adventures and fun, but much prefer this whole power thing!
Take care.

Valentine Giveaway!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I thought it would be fun to give away a pair of Valentine fabric postcards to one lucky love!
They are easy to make with wonderful fabric like this. It's one of my favorites- Cherie for Clothworks. It's at least a couple years old and I'm not sure if they still sell this design. Aren't these ladies great!

Just leave a comment and I'll pick a winner on Sunday so I can mail them to you in time to send off to friends or lovers for V-day!

What was the best Valentine's Day you've ever had? What did you do?

More practice. More girls.

Raindrop Girl

I got the free motion quilting bug. This afternoon I took out my colored pencils and some scraps of white fabric and played around with the gals I love to draw. I thought they would make practicing free motion quilting more fun, and I may just get some fabric postcards out of it, too.

Doodles and Postcards

This week I have been playing in my sketchbook. Lots of watercolor doodles. And I've been using copies of paintings and things I've done this year and making postcards. Always building up the mail art stash!

This girl is one I did in my egg tempura painting class a few months ago. I printed a 4x6 image and started layering on paint and things.

This is the head and shoulders from a doll I made last year. I plopped her into my felted vessels and kinda liked the picture. Mounted it and dabbed some blue paint along the edges. Instant postcard.

I love doing these watercolor doodles and seeing what comes out.

A doodle in my art journal.

Little sea creature doodle.

How many times did I just use the word doodle? Ha!

I was just over at Pipi La La and found out from Michele about this wonderful mail art project at  Tim's Sally. Mindy is doing a wondeful exchange! Looks like a lot of fun! Check it out!
