Poetry Sentiment

I started working on a new page for my fabric book. I was recently inspired by this Robert Frost quote. I hand wrote it onto fabric and dipped it in encaustic wax.  I liked the way the stitches looked on the encaustic.  I am still playing with the quilting and layout but like where it's headed.

" It is absurd to think that the only way to tell if a poem is lasting is to wait and see if it lasts. The right reader of a good poem can tell the moment it strikes him that he has taken an immortal wound- that he will never get over it.  That is to say, permanence in poetry, as in love, is perceived instantly.  It hasn't to await the test of time.  The proof of a poem is not that we have never forgotten it, but we knew at sight we never could forget it."
- Robert Frost

This is so true. I love Robert Frost, have a book from him by my bed, and wherever I open it, it really seems to speak to me! Great work, Katie. Hugs, Valerie

I too got stuck in the blogger loop, but I cleared out all the cookies etc as advised on help, and 'unclicked' the stay signed box and all was well. Happy belated birthday!

Katie,

That quote is stunningly beautiful. What is it about Frost that makes him so quotable? Here are two more I like:

"A poem begins with a lump in the throat; a homesickness or a love-sickness. It is a reaching out toward expression, an effort to find fulfillment. A complete poem is one where an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found the word."

And, "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."

Cheers from

Very sweet poem, Katie, which looks so lovely in the wax - as though the sentiments are preserved.

Have a lovely weekend,

Wow - I really like the look! I like the poem too - what was it like to sew on wax? Did you hand stitch or machine? Can you tell I might have to try this:) Can't wait to see all of the pictures you're going to take with your new camera - have a great week.
