The Wreck of the Hesperus

The Take A Word prompt this week was MEN. I love doing these challenges because it really gets my mind going in ways I may not have expected.  It somehow brought me to one of my favorite poets, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which then lead me to my favorite poem, The Wreck of the Hesperus. I started out attemping to make a fabric book cover but ended up making a fabric book that contains my beloved poem instead. Now I can easily open up my book and read it often.
The image of Longfellow was taken from online and printed on Lutradur Mixed Media Sheets. I bought these a while back but wasn't exactly sure for what use. They worked perfect for the photo and printing the poem. I used Peltex to stiffen the pages, and just played around with how to bind my little book.
I am really happy with the way it turned out and my favorite nautical button found a good home.

Your book is absolutely wonderful. I love the stars, the old man digital and the chunkiness of it. What a great job you did with "Men."

Katie, I am bowled over to know that you have used my modest little challenge as an inspiration to do something so great! What a fantastic idea to create such a treasure - a fabric book that houses your favourite poet and poem with the added advantage of being so tactile and delicious that an extra dimension is added to your enjoyment when you open it. I can't think of anything better to do with one's art. Superb in every way. Fantastic!!

Brilliant! What a gorgeous take on the word Men! I love your work and you have outdone yourself this week.

We have the saying in our family, if you are looking a bit windswept or unkempt, you can be sure someone will say...'Blimey! You look like the wreck of the Hesperus!'
