There's a fine line between brave and stupid, and sometimes only in hindsight is the distinction made. All sorts of disasters could have befallen a very vulnerable Sattareh but she was resolute and will, I hope, have triumphed in her quest by the time you reach the end of her book.

My 2 bravest acts were 1) leaving my first husband, when all around me told me I'd made my bed so I should lie in it (what, be stuck forever with this man who so recklessly crushed my spirit?!), and then 2) trusting my instinct and giving my still fragile heart to the man who would later become my 2nd husband. He is the love of my life.

You drove trucks? That is so cool!

xxxJoannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07159166921836676091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4720544266052873109.post-29012473045256626102011-10-14T13:43:16.280-07:002011-10-14T13:43:16.280-07:00sounds like a good book. One has been with her youth group girls since they were in 6th grade, this year they are seniors. No grand adventures but I think both women have had a big impact on many kids.
They are my heros because they care about others.
jillMail Art Dramashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07641811876296214400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4720544266052873109.post-70668668455208386792011-10-14T10:04:38.000-07:002011-10-14T10:04:38.000-07:00Sounds like a fab book. I think the scariest thing we ever have to do is really be true to ourselves and who we want to be, but skydiving anything with heights is on my big fear list. Gretel Ehrlich, and women who homesteaded in the west, Maya Angelou, too many women to name really. Driving a big rig, another whole side to you! xox CorrineAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4720544266052873109.post-15931545383592757232011-10-14T08:05:56.516-07:002011-10-14T08:05:56.516-07:00My bravest thing...which didn't seem scary to ...My bravest thing...which didn't seem scary to me at all at the time...was packing up and leaving CA for NM to move in with someone I'd only spent a total of four days with in person. Looking back on it I can't believe that timid little me did that!
Also, it's awesome that you were a truck driver!Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08246920104302594345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4720544266052873109.post-28953188939835660152011-10-14T03:19:58.940-07:002011-10-14T03:19:58.940-07:00Maya Angelou is one of mine. My bravest thing (other than marrying someone for the rest of my life & having 3 boys!) was my first solo exhibition - goodness that makes me feel good saying that!!! But yes, it took the wind out of my sails for a bit but I'd do it again! I was able to make those cards using designs I'd already made before so I just had to enjoy the process & do no heavy thinking!Emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18114514969969050590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4720544266052873109.post-67823246713016826752011-10-14T01:09:23.787-07:002011-10-14T01:09:23.787-07:00Sounds like a great book! I'm currently hooked on May Sarton, a woman writer, born in Europe and came to America. She did a lot for women writers and just died in 1995. Interesting woman. Enjoy the rest of your book. hugs, DonnaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07473066748973697571noreply@blogger.com
